Shareable documents are an integral part of customer onboarding and project management. You can create documents within your Rocketlane projects and allow your team members to view or edit these documents.

All team members can collaborate through document spaces. Link tasks, add comments, request approvals, tag your team members, and assign team members to tasks, all through Rocketlane Documents.

Rocketlane Documents: Features and Functionalities

Heading StylesChoose from Normal text, Heading 1, Heading 2, and Heading 3.
Format TextHighlight text by using Bold, Italics, and Underline formatting options.
Font ColorPick your text color scheme from the color panel.
Strikethrough textCross out action items that have been completed or cancel out text that has lost relevance.
Code BlockAdd pieces of code using the code format to differentiate code from other text.
ListsOrganize your text using numbered lists, bulleted lists, or checklists.
Change AlignmentAlign text to the left, center, or right for ease of reading.
Insert ImageAdd images for better presentation.
Add an emojiAdd emojis to text to communicate better.
Insert tableDisplay associated data fields in a tabular format.
Insert panelsAdd panels with pre-designed formatting. You can add Information, Success, Warning, and Error panels.
Insert SectionsAdd document task sections or private text sections to your document.
Freeze/Unfreeze DocumentFreeze the document in its current state. Once frozen, the document is no longer editable and enters read-only mode. Anyone from Rocketlane can unfreeze the document and edit it.
Request ApprovalRequest approval from a customer or team member.
Export to PDFExport your document in PDF format.
More ActionsCopy the document URL or delete the document.
ConversationsChat with your customers and team members to discuss document-related updates.
CommentsLeave comments related to the document.
TasksAdd document task sections to the document.

Request Approval

The Request Approval dialog box opens with the following fields:

  • Type: Private or shared approval, depending on which space the document belongs to.
  • Approvers: Assign customers and/or team members as approvers.
  • Due Date: Add a due date for document approval.
  • Add a short note: Add a note for your approvers.

Click Request to send the approval request to your approvers.

More Actions

  • Copy URL: Copy the document's URL.
  • Delete: Delete the document.

While drafting documents, you can quickly add a hyperlink, comment, or Document task to a segment of text.

Upon selecting text, you have three options:

LinkLets you add a URL to the web page that you want users to land on by clicking the selected text.
Add CommentLets you leave a comment for your team members.
Add taskLets you add Document Tasks to related text.

  • Select text and right-click on it. Choose the link icon.
  • Type the URL of the page you want to link in the dialog box that appears and click the green tick to link the highlighted text.

Adding Comments to Highlighted Text

  • Select text and right-click on it. Choose Add comment.
  • Type the comment in the dialog box that appears and click Add to add the comment to the highlighted text.

Adding Tasks to Highlighted Text

  • Select text and right-click on it. Choose Add task.
  • A dialog box will appear asking for the task name, task assignee, and task description. By default, the selected text from the document is auto-filled as the task description. You can edit the task description after creating the task too. Click Create.
  • The text with a related Document task also gets a green underline.
  • All tasks created from selecting text snippets from the document are visible on the right side under the Document tasks section.
  • You can assign people, scroll to the document reference, and delete tasks from this panel.
  • For more detailed task assignments, click on the task and explore the pop-up banner related to the task.

Adding Task Sections

  • From the top navigation bar, go to Insert Sections > Add Tasks.
  • An Untitled tasks section is added to the document where the cursor was placed. It is also added to the column of tasks on the right side of the screen. You can use this section for grouping tasks together.
  • You can rename Untitled tasks and start adding tasks by clicking Add Task. Type the task name and press Enter.
  • Under the Assigned to column, click Choose and pick a team member from the drop-down list.
  • To delete the task, click the More actions hamburger menu icon next to the task and click Delete.

Inserting a Private Section

You can add sections of text that are confidential or not intended to be read by people in the team who are not from your organization.

  • From the top navigation bar, choose Insert Sections. Select Private Section.
  • A private section will be added to your document with a pale yellow background. You can type the confidential information in that section.
NoteCurrently, duplicating documents under Spaces isn’t possible. However, you can create document templates to reuse and recreate documents as needed.
